Wellness Weekends

Do you work in corporate & have limited annual leave. If you do, you know finding peace in your weekend’s is crucial. If you are in need of a reset & an afternoon of relaxation this might be a nice Idea for you to try.

One thing I love about this genius brainchild of mine is that it has all the makings of a true self-care day. To start off, you get on the road and head out to Ballyboughal in North Co. Dublin. Only a few miles from where I grew up, there’s something so comforting about heading out on the back roads. Aside from the personal ties, the drive itself is scenic, especially in summer, music on & windows down.

After a pleasant drive you arrive at your first spot, Semora Salinn. This is a Wellness Centre which offers a range of great options. They offer Salt Therapy, Halo Red, Compression Boots, Floatation tank & much more. The one thing I love about Semora Salinn is the tranquil environment. Unlike the Sauna Villages, Semora Salinn’s focus is less about socializing & more about real relaxion. They offer great packages, many of which allow you to have fully private sessions.

This weekend I booked in for a session in their Salt Therapy Room. Salt Therapy has a number of benefits & can be especially beneficial for individuals who suffer from respiratory difficulties. Other benefits include reducing inflammation & bacteria. The session was one hour; blankets are provided & there’s healing frequencies playing in the room. I may or may not have had an afternoon nap.

After a fabulous session I headed to La Cocina Cuevas based in the Naul Co. Dublin. If you’ve never been here before I can assure you two things,
1. You will need google maps to locate it and
2. You will be blown away by the food & the set up.

To give you a bit of a background, Jeremy Cuevas is the Chef behind the food. He grew in Londi California where his grandmother ran the original La Cocina Cuevas. As Jermey grew up so did his love & passion for the industry. Having trained in some of London’s top restaurants for 10 years he came to be based in Ireland, & In 2022 La Cocina Cuevas opened.

If you do ever decide to pay a visit, make sure to follow them on socials as they often have specials available. I’ve had a variety of dishes from their menu; on this occasion we got their version of Patas Bravas (homemade mini tater tots), the Special - which was spicy pineapple wings & the pulled pork tacos. I appreciate how experimental they are with flavors, if you have an adventurous palette you’re in luck as they generally have quirky flavors to try. Overall, I’d rate this place a 9/10.

The pairing of science backed relaxation & Cali Mex is not a combo to be messed with. I’d definitely give it a go, it may just be the best kept secret in North Co. Dublin.
